Under the applicable legislation, computer software programs are protected as literary works. Copyright works made available on the Internet environment are also protected.
Copyright is an automatic right. It arises when a work is created. Unlike other intellectual property rights such as patents, trademarks and industrial designs, it is not necessary to register a copyright in Macau in order to get protection under the Macau law. Hence, there is no official registry in Macau for registration of copyright works.
Nevertheless, registering your original work may be valuable in order to demonstrate the date of its creation.
